The eternal battle between slots and casino authorities and the gambling industry

gambling industry

One thing that some casino players may not be aware of is the constant clashes between regulatory bodies in the gambling industry and slot games. Sometimes these clashes can get very ugly, with fines being dished out and reputations tarnished. The battle seems to be an eternal fight between the two.

Casino regulations

Casino regulations are essentially rules that providers have to follow in order to operate. Not following these rules can have enormous consequences, operators could be suspended and have their license revoked if they ignore the regulations set by law. These regulations are put in place for a variety of reasons, they have been more heavily used since the explosion of online gaming in recent years. Many modern regulations are an attempt to dissuade gambling addictions and stop younger people from using the games. Most regulations are for the provider, meaning that players won’t even notice most of them. However with an increasing number of regulations setting betting limits, more and more players are being affected by them. There has been mixed reactions from the gaming community with so welcoming the changes, whilst others resist them.

Slot and casino authority clashes

There are various slot laws and regulations that players have to follow. These slot games sometimes clash with these laws, inevitably drawing the ire of the authorities. In the gambling world, not even the biggest slot providers are above the law however. The following are reasons why slots and casino authorities clash.

  1. Advertising – One of the biggest things that has caused clashes in the industry has been the advertising of games. Authorities have often pulled game advertisements from the public as they deemed it unsuitable for children because it appealed to them! Naturally, this was never the intention of the provider, causing conflict between the two bodies.
  2. Payouts – Another area that causes major conflict is the issue of payouts. Sometimes a provider will not payout to a player if they believe they have been cheating or the machine was faulty. Sometimes this can clash with the viewpoint of a gambling authority, who will order the provider to payout to the player.

Gambling Commission

In the UK, the main regulatory body of online slots and casino gambling as a whole are the gambling commission. This body has many powers which can help them to regulate the world of gambling and keep providers in line.

  •       The gambling commission is a result of the Gambling act which was passed in 2005. Under this act, provisions were laid out to install a new regulatory body into British gambling; this body was independent so it could not be influenced by providers.
  •       The gambling commission has many powers which can make them a controversial figure amongst providers, the commission can fine providers when they are in breach of the rules and can even revoke their license!
Final Thoughts

Slots and regulatory bodies seem destined to clash for eternity, there is just something about the way that the games are made and promoted that goes against what regulatory bodies want.
